The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration defines recovery as a process of change through which individuals improve health and wellness, live self-directed lives, and strive to reach their full potential.
Boulder Feet Forward offers zero-barrier peer support services, meeting our clients where they are. We take an informal and flexible initial approach, addressing our constituents’ needs as they arise in the moment during our daily street outreach, and increasingly by appointment as our clients begin to contemplate and then prepare for change.
As Peers, we have many roles towards our constituents, but all are co-equal, always respecting an individual's personal journey, and recognizing that people in recovery need support for each dimension of wellness: Physical, Emotional, Social, Spiritual, Intellectual, Financial, Environmental, Occupational.
Peers are experienced resource navigators; we help our constituents to find resources to meet each of these needs, providing not just referrals, but introductions and advocacy where necessary.
We are cheerleaders of our constituents’ successes, no matter how small. We are trustworthy allies who listen nonjudgmentally. We help our constituents identify strengths and weaknesses, create plans and goals, and solve problems. We can be mentors, we can be motivators, and we can be friends, but most importantly, we are always truth-tellers.
